Power of Connection - From the heart of one of our HHH girls

Beautiful words by one of our HHH participants. A reflection piece of what Connection now means to her - written throughout her journey in the HHH program. What a world these little ladies will lead knowing the power of human connection at their age.

“Connecting; the joining or linking things together, especially to provide access & communication.

Connecting is most commonly known in the form of physical connection just like Lego bricks in the way they align. I walked into this program believing connection only existed in that one physical form. Its been three weeks with these amazing girls I now call my friends. They have taught me the meaning of true connection.

Watching them connect with one and another, making friendships that may last years and years, sharing their stories and opening themselves up to show us their version of the world. To start our connection may of been mental but throughout each hike we pull each other up, we link arms and connect as one because we need each other’s support to get over our fears, to push through the darkness and find the light at the top.

During our hikes at the top of each challenge we group together, and we connect. Sitting there exhausted listening to the stories of one another learning about each other’s visions helps clear your own. On our third hike one of our amazing leaders told us a story about our worth, as I listened, I took in the message of the story on a personal level. Before I joined HHH I believed that the day I break would be the end of all happiness but after the many stories I’ve hear I’ve now come to believe that even when people push me down it doesn’t matter how far I go all I have to do is pick myself up and believe that I can be happy again, that this feeling of darkness is only temporary. I know I’m not the only one in the group that feels this way and with that its another way of connection, we connect though out feelings and emotions.

I have never really thought about the word connection so much, there is so many different things you need to be able to connect to something or someone, you can connect by having yourself and one other thing but for that connection to last, you need to be connected either physically or mentally. To bond with the other girls in this program has been so easy, were all facing the same challenge, we all have the same destination and as we work together to get there, to get to the top we discover a deeper connection. In week 3 there was someone that I didn’t know was afraid of heights but she put on a strong face and pushed through like the strong woman she is, we all learnt a little more about someone that day and to be able to watch someone conquer their fears is so inspiring.

Without connection we wouldn’t be connected. Obviously. Without the connection of love, you wouldn’t find friendships. Physical connections you wouldn’t be able to catch someone when they fall (every 5 minutes heehee) and without connection we wouldn’t be able to feel what others are feeling. Not being able to feel someone’s excitement or happiness or even sadness would just make the world feel so gray. I am so forever grateful for connection and everything it makes me.”
